Charlie’s Angel: Guest Blogger

Worth It

I am so honored to be a guest blogger that I have been wracking my brains for days trying to come up with some inspiring words or stories – and then it hit me that this struggle to find my “voice” is exactly what I want to write about.

Like many other women that I know, 2009 was the toughest year(http://privateeyeundies.com/2009-you-are-a-bad-boyfriend/) I have faced in my 35+ years (almost 40 but who’s counting).

As the year started, I began a quest to get to know myself better and to pay more attention to that inner voice that I often ignored. You know the voice I am talking about…the one that says – “I am eating those fries b/c I am stressed not because I’m hungry!” “I shouldn’t skip my workout because I always feel better afterwards…” “I CAN find fulfillment at work…” and the biggest one “I deserve to be happy – but first I have to figure out what makes me happy.”

This was quite an effort – one of the hardest projects that I have worked on in my life since this one was personal. Being a caretaker by nature – I finally realized that I had not been taking care of the most important person in my life…me! I confronted some tough realities in my spiritual, personal and professional life. Having just done my taxes – I realize what an expensive project it was too! So while I am reconciling my HSA – I realize the most important lesson for me from 2009: “I am WORTH IT!”

One of the best pieces of advice I received when first starting my career was to “surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed.” And I did – I sought a LOT of help by some amazing women in all aspects of my life…friends, family, and professionals who prevented me from crying “uncle” every time I was feeling sorry for myself. I encourage EACH and every one of you to do this…find us! We are out there, and we want to pass along our experiences because what you don’t realize is that we need you, too! Remember that a rising tide lifts all ships.

Today I bought a brand new luggage set for the journeys ahead, and I know my traveling companion a lot better than I used to…
